The Yankees were able to answer that with five runs of their own in the bottom half of the 1st. The game was a back and forth struggle, until Tino Martinez hit a three run homerun, making it five straight games in which the slugger has homered. His homerun tied the game at nine and the Yankees never looked back. Derek Jeter followed with a solo blast of his own and Gary Sheffield and Jorge Posada added long balls of their own en route to a 13-9 victory over Seattle. This was the Yankees first series sweep this season.

Giambi meets to discuss future

Just yesterday Joe Torre assured the world and Jason Giambi that the former MVP would stay in the lineup despite his recent struggles. Since August of 2003 he has been hitting barely over .200. Today, Jason Giambi was benched in favor of Bernie Williams as the DH tonight and with the way Tino Martinez has been playing it seems unlikely Giambi will resume as the everyday first basemen for the Yanks. It has been reported that Giambi may be released or sent down to the minors.

What should the Yankees do with Jason Giambi? Bellamy Road choked at the end of the race, finishing seventh. Andromeda's Hero became one of the first horses to win as a 50-1 long shot! The gorgeous weather made it a great day for a baseball game.
However, Yankees fans were disappointed with the outcome of the game. The 2nd inning killed the Yanks when Tejada hit a grandslam bringing the Orioles up 6-0. The game ended with a 8-4 victory for the O's. I know that I am not alone when I say that the Yankees are not playing their best lately.
Sunday's loss was the 8th loss out of the last 10. Their record is now 4-8, New York's worst since 1991. Steinbrenner released a statement after the game:
“I am bitterly disappointed, as I am sure all Yankee fans are, by the lack of performance by our team,” said Steinbrenner. “It is unbelievable to me that the highest-paid team in baseball would start the season in such a deep funk.
“They are not playing like true Yankees,” the owner added. “They have the talent to win, and they are not winning. I expect Joe Torre, his complete coaching staff and the team to turn this around.”
After two weeks of the season, the Yankees find themselves tied with Tampa Bay for last place in the American League East, four games behind the Orioles.
But don't worry New York fans!! Its only April and we all know that the Yanks are much better than they have been playing lately. I have no doubt in my mind that we will see the Yankees in the Playoffs.

These are some pictures I took from the game on Sunday at Camden Yards. Its a really cool stadium!

Its Opening Day!!!

The Yankees kick off the 2005 season today in Yankee Stadium against the Boston Redsox.
